Common Causes of Defects in SPC Flooring

Update:2025/6/30 14:50:09 Views:0

SPC flooring (Stone Plastic Composite flooring) is a popular waterproof flooring option known for its durability and stability. However, defects such as scratches, dents, and uneven surfaces can occur due to various factors.

1. Poor Subfloor Preparation
An uneven or dirty subfloor can cause SPC vinyl floor planks to shift, leading to gaps, buckling, or lifting. Proper leveling and cleaning before installation are crucial.

2. Low-Quality Wear Layer
Cheaper SPC laminate products may have thin wear layers, making them prone to scratches and scuffs from heavy furniture or foot traffic. High-quality SPC flooring with a 20+ mil wear layer offers better protection.

3. Improper Installation
If the flooring is not properly clicked or glued, gaps and movement can occur. Expansion space should also be maintained to prevent warping due to temperature changes.

4. Excessive Moisture Exposure
While SPC flooring is waterproof, prolonged water exposure (e.g., leaks or flooding) can seep into seams, causing swelling or adhesive failure.

5. Heavy Impact & Abrasion
Dragging heavy objects or sharp heels can dent or scratch even durable SPC vinyl floor surfaces. Using protective pads under furniture helps prevent damage.

6. UV Fading
Direct sunlight can cause color fading over time, especially in lower-quality SPC laminate. UV-resistant coatings can mitigate this issue.

By addressing these factors, homeowners and installers can minimize defects and extend the lifespan of SPC flooring. Choosing high-quality materials and proper installation techniques ensures a long-lasting, flawless finish.
